Led by <strong data-start=\"284\" data-end=\"301\">Domingo P\u00e9rez<\/strong>, Director of Innovation at Grupo Azvi, Azvi researchers are part of the <strong data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"383\">SIRMA<\/strong> platform, together with other European entities.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"830\">The Azvi research team, directed by <strong data-start=\"472\" data-end=\"489\">Domingo P\u00e9rez<\/strong>, along with partners from Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Spain, is participating in <strong data-start=\"594\" data-end=\"671\">SIRMA \u2013 Strengthening Infrastructure Risk Management in the Atlantic Area<\/strong>. This solid platform aims to anticipate, manage, and mitigate environmental risks affecting road and railway infrastructure networks in the Atlantic region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"832\" data-end=\"1151\">Launched in April 2019 and now in its final year of implementation, the project seeks to significantly improve the <strong data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"986\">resilience of these infrastructures<\/strong>, particularly against climate change-related effects. To this end, it has received <strong data-start=\"1070\" data-end=\"1102\">two million euros in funding<\/strong> from the <strong data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1148\">INTERREG Atlantic Area Programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1153\" data-end=\"1642\">Azvi\u2019s experts in road maintenance and railway line conservation have contributed to developing a <strong data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"1314\">systematic risk-based prevention and management methodology<\/strong>, participating in the creation of a <strong data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1375\">database of measures<\/strong> for mitigating the most relevant climate change impacts on transport infrastructure, including their effects and costs. The long-term goal is to <strong data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1573\">reduce the risks posed by extreme climate events<\/strong>, especially <strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1610\">floods and wildfires<\/strong>, to transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1644\" data-end=\"1849\">In its latest phase, <strong data-start=\"1665\" data-end=\"1674\">SIRMA<\/strong> has focused on applying its results to <strong data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1764\">road and rail networks in Portugal and Ireland<\/strong>, where climate change has been causing flooding and disrupting infrastructure use.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1851\" data-end=\"2093\">The project involves academic collaboration with the <strong data-start=\"1904\" data-end=\"1975\">Universities of Minho, Dublin, Vigo, Nantes, Surrey, and Birmingham<\/strong>, as well as participation from private companies such as <strong data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2053\">Azvi, Irish Rail<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2059\" data-end=\"2090\">Infraestruturas de Portugal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2095\" data-end=\"2201\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">More information about the project can be found at:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sirma-project.eu\/\">https:\/\/sirma-project.eu\/<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The project focuses on preventing environmental risks in road and railway infrastructure networks across the Atlantic Area.
