Grupo Azvi<\/strong> and the government of the Mexican state of Guanajuato<\/strong>, through Guanajuato Puerto Interior (GPI)<\/strong>, signed an agreement yesterday to consolidate the development of the Baj\u00edo Logistics Port project, a new industrial intermodal dry port located in the city of Celaya<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the project will see an investment of 2.5 billion Mexican pesos (119 million euros) and will be developed in stages, depending on the needs of the region\u2019s industries.<\/p>\n
The Baj\u00edo Logistics Port<\/strong> will feature several specialized rail terminals to serve Baj\u00edo\u2019s industries, especially in Celaya. These include an agricultural bulk terminal for products such as wheat, corn, and barley), an automotive terminal, a terminal for containerized goods with the potential to evolve into a crossdock facility, as well as other logistics solutions essential to local industries, such as customs and a strategic bonded warehouse.<\/p>\n
The railway<\/strong> will be promoted as the safest, most efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly means of transporting goods to the US and Canada, formalizing strategic alliances with Ferromex<\/strong> and Canadian Pacific Kansas City<\/strong>, as well as promoting communication with national ports and facilitating last-mile connections from factories to terminals. This second intermodal port in the state, which covers 51 hectares , aims to position Celaya as Mexico\u2019s leading industrial logistics hub. Currently, according to data from the Mexican Railway Association<\/strong>, 23% of the total national railway cargo passes through the municipality of Celaya, while around 35 trains circulate daily through Guanajuato, transporting close to 30 million tons annually.<\/p>\n
The consolidation signing, held August 6 in Celaya, was attended by Alfonso Budi\u00f1o<\/strong> and \u00c1lvaro Gim\u00e9nez<\/strong>, representing Grupo Azvi, as well as Diego Sinhue Rodr\u00edguez Vallejo, Governor of Guanajuato, Manuel G\u00f3mez Parra, General Director of Intermodal Railway Development of the SICT, Ram\u00f3n Alfaro G\u00f3mez, Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development of Guanajuato, Javier Mendoza M\u00e1rquez, Mayor of Celaya, H\u00e9ctor L\u00f3pez Santillana, General Director of Guanajuato Puerto Interior, \u00d3scar del Cueto, President of Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), Iker de Luisa, General Director of the Asociaci\u00f3n Mexicana de Ferrocarriles, among other representatives of public administrations and companies.<\/p>\n
In the words of Alfonso Budi\u00f1o, “this is a great example of how significant projects can be realized when public administrations and private companies work hand in hand, to implement solutions that support and promote the business fabric, economic development, and, therefore, boost the social fabric of the regions, thus generating new sources of employment and possibilities for Celaya\u2019s businesses “.<\/p>\n
He also expressed his gratitude the “exceptional team of professionals at Grupo Azvi, and all the companies and areas that have been, and will be, involved; for their effort and commitment to bringing this project to life”.<\/p>\n
