A new milestone for our team in Norway. Azvi Norge has carried out — without dismantling the track — more than 400 blasting operations required for the expansion of the old Ulriken tunnel, which is 7.7 km long, marking one of the greatest challenges of this project that Azvi is developing for Bane NOR.
The main drilling and support works included:
- 46,183.18 m³ of blasted material.
- 46,578.32 m³ of material transported to landfill.
- 8,820 support bolts (between Ø20 mm and Ø32 mm / lengths between 3 m and 6 m).
- 6,260.50 m³ of shotcrete B35 M45 reinforced with E700 or E1000 fibers.
The rehabilitation project involves widening the tunnel section at various points. To carry this out, approximately 38,000 m³ of rock must be excavated, with blasting performed along 6.2 km of the central section.
The project also includes new waterproofing, installation of several service conduits, and construction of the Bergen-side tunnel portal in reinforced concrete, as well as a new bridge and urban redevelopment of the surrounding area.
The original tunnel was built in the 1960s and runs parallel to the new Ulriken tunnel.
