Our Chief Legal Officer, Borja Rodríguez, participated in the Round Table on Public Contracts and Bidding Companies at the II Aranzadi Congress on In-House and Business Law, held this week in Madrid.
During his speech, Mr Rodríguez explored the challenges faced by contracting companies deriving from the mandatory extensions of public contracts.
Among the main risks, he highlighted the impact of inflation, the increase in labour costs, regulatory changes and unforeseeable events, which affect the economic sustainability of contracts, especially in the case of the mandatory extension of long-term contracts.
He also stressed the need for more flexible legislation than the current one, favouring the adaptation of the contract to the circumstances prevailing at the time of the mandatory extension, in order to guarantee the contract’s correct execution while avoiding losses for the contractor.
This congress brought together leading legal and business professionals to address the main challenges facing the sector and seek solutions that will strengthen cooperation between companies and public administration.
