Grupo Azvi Chairman, Manuel Contreras Caro, presides as the company celebrates the latest edition of its major annual event: the Azvi Awards
Presided over by company Chairman, Manuel Contreras Caro, Grupo Azvi has been celebrating its major annual event: the Azvi Awards since 2006. The awards are a public recognition of the company’s projects and of the people who make them possible and who stand out for their effort, talent and commitment.
What began as an internal ceremony, these awards have become a meeting point in Seville, bringing together the company’s entire workforce, and the city’s business, social and cultural community.
The Azvi Awards reflect the company’s excellence and, at the same time, its pride in the city and the society it represents. Through the programmes and recognitions of the Grupo Azvi Foundation, the awards act as a catalyst for progress and collective wellbeing, highlighting organisations, institutions and individuals whose work contributes to building a better society.
Through this initiative, Grupo Azvi highlights not only its internal achievements, but also its role as an active agent in building a more prosperous, sustainable and human environment, for Seville, the locations where it operates and all the people who are part of the Group.
AZVI AWARD FOR BEST PROJECT
The Azvi Award for Best Project recognises the most representative infrastructure projects which, due to their characteristics and execution, deserve this distinction. This year, the Evaluation Committee has selected as the winning project the Southern Extension of the Granada Metro, section: Churriana de la Vega–Las Gabias. This is a significant project resulting from the strong commitment by the Regional Government of Andalusia to the development of public transport in our region.
The extension of the Granada Metro comprises 2 km of slab track between Churriana and Las Gabias, including the execution of 1.5 km of double track and 500 m of single track; three new stops (La Gloria, Los Chopos and Las Gabias); an interchange hub connecting different transport systems; and a park-and-ride facility.
For this major project, the following professionals received awards: Tomás Jodra, Azvi’s Southern Regional Manager for Civil Works and manager of the project’s joint venture; Francisco Javier Iglesias García, Head of Administration; Javier Villanueva Mena-Bernal, BIM Manager; Fernando Cano Caballero, Head of Surveying; Sergio J. Expósito García, Deputy BIM Manager; Juan Agustín Verdejo Castelar, Quality Technician; and Juan Manuel Castuera Redondo, Site Foreman.
BUSINESS GROWTH AND PERFORMANCE AWARD
This year, Grupo Azvi has awarded the Azvi Business Growth and Performance Award to its Building area. After the collapse of the real estate sector in 2007 and 2008, the company redefined its areas of activity, resuming its commitment to this field a decade later.
In 2018, under the leadership of Pablo Reiter, Azvi began a new phase that has enabled it to once again position itself as a benchmark in residential and tertiary construction.
The award was received by the Director of Azvi Building, Pablo Reiter, and the Director of Building Studies, Guillermo Marchito.
SPECIAL MENTION
People are Grupo Azvi’s main asset, and each individual plays an essential role in the company’s operation. In certain circumstances, some careers acquire particularly significant value and deserve special recognition.
This is the case of Sergio Rodríguez, a professional whose career in the Management Control department has contributed decisively to the group’s strong performance and stability, and thus deserves the 2025 Special Mention.
HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT AWARD
This year, the Evaluation Committee has selected Felícitas Fuentes Torres to receive this award. Felicitas is currently responsible for Health and Safety on one of the most important projects that Grupo Azvi is executing in Mexico: the San Luis de Potosí motorway. With more than 17 years of experience in this field, Felícitas has been involved in emblematic projects across the country such as the Transoceanic Railway, Medias Aguas–Ubero section, and Sections 3 and 5 of the Maya Train.
INNOVATION AWARD
This year, the Innovation Award recognises the ability to generate ideas, put them into practice and transform them into innovative solutions that contribute to improving the group’s results and profitability.
The award went to César Casanova, a professional with 25 years of experience at Grupo Azvi, whose creative drive and technical vision have been present both on site, in various infrastructure projects, and in technical management and support roles for the Innovation Department.
Throughout his career, Casanova has contributed solutions aimed at solving problems, optimising processes and increasing efficiency. One example is the sleeper squaring machine, an innovation that improves the track assembly process and is currently operational in the railway projects that the group is carrying out in Mexico.
SUSTAINABILITY AWARD
Aware of the importance of integrating ESG issues into business strategies and decisions, Grupo Azvi has chosen this year to recognise Site Manager Ignacio Martín Bernal and Environmental Manager Ricardo Calvo Monje. Both have successfully integrated production and environmental areas during the execution of various infrastructure projects in recent years and, currently, in the construction of the Altza–Galtzaraborda section, where they have implemented measures and developed actions that contribute substantially to meeting environmental objectives while remaining compatible with the management of a profitable project.
GOLD LAPEL PIN FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE
The Gold Lapel pins recognise the effort and commitment of professionals who, over 25 years, have contributed to the development and growth of the company.
These professionals represent a fundamental value for the company. Their knowledge of our culture and good business practices should serve as a guide for all employees from the different companies in our business group. GRUPO AZVI FOUNDATION RECOGNITION
For Grupo Azvi, Social Responsibility is voluntarily integrated into the management of its activities, into the needs, expectations and demands of its stakeholders, reconciling the improvement of economic results and full compliance with our obligations with social wellbeing and sustainable growth. The Grupo Azvi Foundation is one of the channels through which Grupo Azvi materialises its commitment to the social development of the environments where it is present, through the implementation of its own programmes or in collaboration with other organisations and entities.
This year, the Grupo Azvi Foundation has selected Asociación Anclaje to receive its award for outstanding work. The association runs a treatment centre offering addicts a second opportunity, through appropriate diagnosis, personalised care and continuous support throughout a process aimed at charting the path towards a new life. The award was received by its Chairman, Manuel Jiménez Campos.
GRUPO AZVI FOUNDATION CHILDREN’S DRAWING AWARD
Each year, the Grupo Azvi Foundation organises the Grupo Azvi Foundation Children’s Drawing Competition, in which the children and relatives of Grupo Azvi employees are invited to take part.
In this edition, the jury of visual artist Reyes de la Lastra and architect Juan Ruesga, selected the drawing by 5 year-old Javier Ciézar Gallardo as the winner of the Grupo Azvi Foundation Children’s Drawing Competition. The 1st special mention was awarded to the drawing by Machú de la Puerta Castillo, and the 2nd to that by Carmen Rodríguez Brito.
As in previous years, these drawings have been used as Grupo Azvi’s Christmas greeting.
CHRISTMAS SPEECH
Once again, Grupo Azvi brought the event to a close with its traditional Christmas speech, which on this occasion was given by the Corporate Director of Legal Advisory, Borja Rodríguez. During his speech, Borja highlighted the group’s sustained and exponential growth in recent years, the result of the effort and professionalism of its teams, underscoring the importance of teamwork, unity and a strong sense of belonging.
