Azvi begins work on the extension of Line 3 of the Madrid Metro to Getafe

The consortium formed by Azvi, Obras Subterráneas and Cotodisa has begun work on the extension of Line 3 of the Madrid Metro from Villaverde Alto station (Madrid) to El Casar (Getafe).

Awarded by the Community of Madrid, the project has a budget of €92 million, sourced from European Union Recovery funds.

This extension is 2,624 metres long, of which 2,135 metres will be constructed using the Belgian method (traditional in Madrid) and between screens the existing 120 metres to the start of the new El Casar station.

El Casar will be a new intermodal area for Getafe, as it will have an interchange that will house Madrid Metro line 3 and MetroSur line 12, the Renfe commuter train service and connections to various local bus routes. The station will be 130 metres long and 34 metres wide, and will have two levels: the lobby and the platforms, which will be excavated 14 metres below street level. Passengers will access the platforms via three lifts, six escalators and three fixed staircases.
