The extension of Madrid Metro Line 3 recognised as Best Project by Caminos Madrid

Azvi’s Villaverde Alto – El Casar extension of Madrid Metro Line 3, has been named Best Project at the 18th Annual Awards of the Madrid Association of Civil Engineers (Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Madrid).

With an investment of €123 million, the 2.7 km section was built entirely underground using a combination of methods (Madrid traditional method, Belgian method and cut-and-cover) to meet the demands of the complex ground conditions. The project included the installation of 5.2 km of slab track, the construction of the new El Casar station and all the systems required to guarantee the safety and operability of the line. The new station also features a 575-space car park and provides interchange with MetroSur and the C3 commuter rail line.

Carlos Puebla, Azvi’s Director of Civil Works, accepted the award on behalf of the company – recognition of the work involved in delivering an infrastructure that posed a significant technical challenge, while driving economic and social development and contributing to a more sustainable city.

This recognition is also a tribute to the talent, technical expertise and dedication of all the professionals who contributed to the project.

Congratulations to everyone who made it possible, both the Azvi team and our partners in the El Casar joint venture, OSSA and Cotodisa.

Great work! Great team!
