Traccion Rail joins the ‘Freight by Rail’ campaign

Grupo Azvi’s freight rail operator, Traccion Rail, has joined this interesting campaign, sponsored by Transfesa, which is committed to achieving a decarbonised and more sustainable transport sector.

Together with the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay and Marcotran, the initiative was presented in Algeciras on 5 May, accompanied by the city’s mayor, José Ignacio Landaluce.

The campaign focuses on a two-day exhibition of the travelling green container from ‘Mercancías al tren’ (Freight by Rail), which can be accessed to enjoy a free exhibition aimed at raising awareness of the need to take measures to reduce transport pollution, responsible for 30% of total emissions in Europe, and the importance of committing to intermodality and the transfer of goods to rail in order to achieve the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda, as rail freight transport can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%, causes 85 times less human damage and consumes six times less energy.

In parallel with the green container exhibition, a professional conference was organised in the auditorium of the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay, where the challenges and advantages of transporting goods by rail were discussed and various success stories were presented.

Traccion Rail, accompanied by Transfesa and Stadler, participated in a panel on ‘Freight transport today’. Its Head of Production, Manuel Bejarano, had the opportunity to explain how Grupo Azvi is able to offer comprehensive solutions related to railways and rail transport in all its forms, as it has companies specialising in different areas related to the sector: Traccion Rail as a rail freight operator; Manfevias, a company authorised by Adif to carry out maintenance on locomotives and freight wagons with its own workshop authorised by the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF); Azvi, a century-old company and a key player in the field of railway infrastructure; and Cointer, the concessionaire.

Traccion Rail’s participation in this initiative reinforces the commitment of Grupo Azvi and all its companies to railways and sustainability, positively impacting the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals).
