A new era of freight transport begins in Uruguay
With his inauguration of the Central Railway, the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, ushers in a new era of rail freight in Uruguay.
The DBCC Transport consortium, made up of our concessionaire Cointer, CHR Group Uruguay and DB International Operations, will now begin transporting more than 2 million tonnes of pulp per year by rail between Paso de los Toros and the Port of Montevideo for UPM, reducing times and costs and helping to improve the environment by reducing carbon emissions and increasing efficiency.
PorTren, formed by Cointer and CHR Group Uruguay, was responsible for supplying the necessary rolling stock, consisting of 7 locomotives and 140 wagons specially designed for the transport of pulp. DBCC will make more than 30 weekly trips with this fleet over the next 25 years, The consortium will also carry out the necessary maintenance worka at the Operation and Maintenance Centre (OCM) which opened last November.
