Azvi has begun ballast removal and the replacement of sleepers and rails on the Mérida-Los Rosales line, as part of an important comprehensive renewal project covering 25 km, across two separate sections.
In the first 8 km section, between Bienvenida and the area near the former Usagre halt, mechanised ballast undercutting without screening is under way. This will be followed by renewal with new ballast.
In the second section, spanning almost 17 km between Casas de Reina and Guadalcanal, Azvi has started replacing rails and sleepers, as well as carrying out mechanised ballast undercutting and renewal with new ballast.
The project also includes the following works:
- Renewal of 17 level crossings.
- Construction of ballast-retaining walls.
- Drainage works.
- Access improvements.
