Cupisa begins foundation works for Section 3 of the Tren Maya

Cupisa (Construcciones Urales Procesos Industriales) has started the electromechanical works for Section 3 of the Tren Maya, between Calkiní and Izamal, beginning with the foundations for the catenary system.

The Grupo Azvi company, which develops and executes electrical and mechanical installation projects in Mexico’s industrial sector, will carry out 3,548 foundations along the 60 km that make up the electrified portion of this section.

The project involves:

  • Using more than 10,000 m³ of reinforced concrete HA-25.
  • Installing 2,366 poles, ranging in height from 9.45 m to 12.45 m, along with 173 self-supporting gantries.
  • Laying over 750 km of cable for power supply, contact wire, and grounding system.

The chosen electrification solution is the C-350 catenary system, whose main features include:

  • Single compensated catenary composed of a messenger wire with a contact wire, equipotential droppers, and a negative feeder, tensioned in all profiles.
  • Vertical polygonal geometry with offset and automatic independent regulation of the messenger and contact wires.
  • Current return system using an overhead return cable.
  • Overhead contact line system with swivel brackets, poles, and rigid gantries.
