Azvi has completed the double-track renovation of nine viaducts between Villanueva de Córdoba station and Adamuz. These works are part of the comprehensive project to improve infrastructures on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line, in this case on the 80 km section between Guadalmez and Córdoba.
It highlights the important coordination required to operate all traffic on a single track, an unprecedented milestone in the history of Spanish high-speed rail.
The work was carried out over a 4-month period, mostly during night shifts and maintenance periods, cutting power when no commercial traffic was running.
The work on the viaducts included:
✔ Lifting of pairs of rails and removal of ballast.
✔ Carrying out tests on abutments, piers and slabs to determine their state of preservation. Injection and sealing of the fasteners.
✔ Replacement of the ballast wall and drainage of the deck.
✔ Milling of the deck.
✔ Waterproofing the deck and laying geotextile.
✔ Packing of the track shoulder bed.
✔ Laying the sleepers and unloading the track.
✔ Assembly of the expansion devices and placement of the ballast wall.
✔ Padding of the pavement, profiling and levelling of the road with heavy machinery.
✔ Carrying out aluminothermic welding and neutralisation.
This project will help to extend the useful life of the Madrid-Seville high-speed line, the backbone of communication in the regions of Madrid, Castilla la Mancha and Andalusia.
The work is being carried out by the Guadalmez-Córdoba UTE, made up of Azvi, Ferrovial Construction, Agrupación Guinovart Obras y Servicios Hispania SA and Contratas y Ventas SAU.
