The Delegate for Public Works and Facilities at Madrid City Council, Paloma García Romero, has visited two of Azvi’s current worksites to see firsthand the progress of the projects being carried out together with Licuas through the Madrid Centro Joint Venture in some of the capital’s most emblematic spaces.
- Calle de Alcalá, between Cibeles and Puerta de Alcalá. A particularly significant project that will transform one of Madrid’s principal historic thoroughfares and enhance Puerta de Alcalá, one of the main heritage landmarks of the Pasaje de la Luz (Landscape of Light), through the creation of a new central promenade, increasing pedestrian space and restoring the historic double row of trees.
The works, approved by UNESCO, are progressing on schedule and will allow local residents and visitors to once again walk beneath the arches of Puerta de Alcalá before the end of the year.
- Plaza de Jacinto Benavente and its surroundings. This redevelopment covers more than 10,000 m² and will create a more accessible, orderly and pedestrian-friendly space, with new green areas and the rehabilitation of the underground car park structure.
Through both projects Azvi is contributing to the renewal and recovery of Madrid’s public spaces, improving accessibility, mobility and urban integration in some of the city’s most representative locations.
During the visit to Calle de Alcalá, the Delegate was accompanied by the Councillor for the Salamanca district, Cayetana Hernández de la Riva, while José Luis Infanzón, Director General for Public Space, Works and Infrastructure, and María Rosa Benito, Coordinator of the Centro district, also attended the visit to Jacinto Benavente.
