Azvi installs the piles of the viaduct over the Salado River in Las Angostruas bypass

The Andalusian Regional Minister for Development, Rocío Díaz, visited Las Angosturas Bypass to see in situ the erection of the piles of the viaduct over the Salado River.

This visit has been carried out together with the Mayor of Priego de Córdoba, Juan Ramón Valdivia, the General Director of Road Infrastructures of the Ministry of Development, Enrique Catalina Carmona, and the regional delegate for Public Works in Córdoba, Cristina Casanueva, accompanied by the Azvi’s site manager, Antonio Jiménez, and the company’s directos Tomás Jodra and Carlos Puebla Montalvo.

The operation facilitated the placement of the four prefabricated piles, each weighing 52 tons, onto the two pile caps that accommodate 18 piles with a diameter of 800 mm and a depth of 20 meters.

A 160 tonne retaining and a 250 tonne principal crane were employed to lift and position the piles vertically and insert them into the pile cap plinth. , The pile cap plinth features eight sheaths with a diameter of 160 mm and a length of 1,900 mm. .

For their correct positioning, vertical alignment and topographic levelling, the piles were supported on four 200x200x20 mm S275JR steel plates. Each of the sheaths were then filled with a high-strength, non-shrink, self-levelling grout mortar, anchoring the pile solidly to the pile cap.

The environmental and archaeological complexity of this project stands out. Highly detailed work has been carried out to protect both our fauna and our historical heritage including a detour so as not to affect the archaeological remains found in the area and the temporary restriction of earthworks to protect the partridge eagle.

The Salado River viaduct is 112 m long, divided into three spans of 37.85 m, 42 m and 32 m. The deck will be made up of two beams and two girders. The deck will consist of two 2,000 mm high trough girders and a 300 mm thick concrete slab. It forms part of the construction project of the 5,655 m long bypass that Azvi is carrying out on the A-333 road, in Las Angosturas within the municipality of Priego de Córdoba, eliminating the existing winding route, in order to reduce the high level of danger of the current road as much as possible.

Congratulations to all for this great work!
