Azvi continues to make progress on the Cañas–Limonal section of the North Inter-American Route in Costa Rica (National Route 1) with the commissioning of a new overpass located in Limonal, marking one of the most significant milestones of this project.
This is a key infrastructure that enables the adjustment of the necessary traffic diversions to continue the works Azvi is carrying out on Route 1 — a major transportation corridor crossing the north of the country and an essential route for the movement of goods between Central American nations.
The overpass features four lanes on the lower level, allowing uninterrupted traffic flow along Route 1, and a roundabout on the upper level that facilitates maneuvers in all four directions, offering greater comfort and safety for users traveling along both Route 1 and Route 18, by improving connectivity between these two major roads.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Alejandro Guillén Guardia, as well as local representatives and community members, including the Inline Skaters school, the Cañas skating association, and the Cañas de Azúcar folklore company, which enlivened the event with traditional dances from the region.
The overall project, which is 88% complete, involves the rehabilitation and expansion to four lanes of the 20.8 km Cañas–Limonal section of the North Inter-American Route, including the construction of service roads, several overpasses and wildlife crossings, seven vehicle bridges, and an equal number of pedestrian bridges.
