The commissioning of the Balsicas variant marks another milestone in the construction of the high-speed rail platform on the Riquelme–Torre Pacheco section, following the diversion of the existing L352 El Reguerón-Cartagena railway line in the area of the Balsicas-Mar Menor station.
This key operation ensures continuity in the deployment of the double-track high-speed platform in standard gauge along a 17.7 km section, running parallel to the conventional line, and enables progress on this strategic connection that will link Cartagena with the Mediterranean Corridor.
The project includes the construction of:
- Seven viaducts.
- Twelve overbridges, one underpass, and one metal footbridge.
- Two realignments of the conventional line (3.8 km in Balsicas and 2.2 km in Torre Pacheco).
- 9.47 km of reinforced concrete retaining walls.
- 31 cross-drainage structures (CDS).
At Azvi, we continue to make progress in railway infrastructures that strengthen connectivity and contribute to sustainable development.
