Domingo Pérez Mira, Grupo Azvi’s Director of Innovation and Digital Transformation, participates in the V Andalusian Road Congress

  • Domingo Pérez Mira spoke to the attendees about the importance of BIM methodology in road maintenance and conservation. Azvi is a pioneer in the use of the BIM methodology and it is one of the first companies in Spain to obtain the Aenor certification of its BIM Information Management System.

Road infrastructures held their annual event in Granada in April with the 5th National Road Congress: an event that brought together more than 600 technicians from all over Spain. Its three days of work were focused on three major issues: the environmental challenge, the reduction of the accident rate and, of course, digital transformation.

In this field, BIM methodology is of great importance, a subject on which Grupo Azvi’s Director of Innovation, Domingo Pérez Mira, had the opportunity to speak in his presentation “Implementation of BIM methodology in road maintenance”.

In particular, Pérez Mira explained how the BIM system for road maintenance is based on the identification and parameterisation of all the elements of the road through the automatic processing of the information coming from “Mobile Mapping” capture systems and the automatic generation of the BIM model.

In the case of Azvi, the implementation of this methodology has allowed the creation and management of projects and works in a collaborative manner, by using the “digital twin” of the work, centralising all the information and all the agents that participate in the life cycle of the asset. This methodology is based on an organisational management system that can be accessed by all workers from the different sites, including clients and suppliers, at any time and from any place.

In this sense, Azvi has led the R+D+I project for road maintenance and operation INFRA_ADAPT, together with the consortium formed by Ineco, Ferrovial Agromán, Cemosa and Ingeniería Insitu. The project has developed a BIM collaborative work system for transport infrastructure management with support for decision-making.

Azvi has also developed other projects with BIM methodology, such as the APIA project for the creation of an integral platform for intelligent auditing in civil works; and HYBRIDCONCOM, where new hybrid structural systems are being developed based on the union of concrete and composite materials to provide innovative technological solutions in spaces with aggressive environments.

In fact, Azvi has been one of the first companies in Spain to obtain Aenor certification for its BIM Information Management System based on the ISO 19650 Standard (parts 1 and 2), demonstrating its firm commitment to innovation and digital transformation.
