We are very proud to share that the remodelling of Plaza de Olavide, carried out by Madrid Centro – the joint venture between Azvi and Licuas – has been awarded the Open House Madrid City 2025 Prize in the Urban Design category.
For Open House, ‘The project transforms a space once dominated by traffic into a green lung in the heart of the Chamberí neighbourhood, inspired by the concept of the “superblock”. Vehicles are progressively eliminated, and pedestrian life is prioritised, with play and seating areas, and outdoor cafés that foster community life’.
The following aspects of the project stand out:
- The new distribution of green spaces.
- The elimination of road sections, giving priority to pedestrians.
- The complete renovation of pavements and existing lighting.
- The incorporation of modern street furniture.
A renovated square that blends historical identity, functionality and a vision of the future. Promoted by Madrid City Council, the project demonstrates how architecture can improve our quality of life.
