The Torre Pacheco railway bypass, built by Azvi, has entered service, coinciding with the partial opening of the station in the municipality of Torre Pacheco, Murcia.
This project forms part of the construction of the rail formation on the Riquelme–Torre Pacheco section, a key infrastructure project for the future High-Speed Rail connection between Murcia and Cartagena, and for providing Cartagena with access to the Mediterranean Corridor.
The commissioning of the 2.2 km bypass is associated with the partial handover of works carried out under the project, which has received European funding through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
The main works carried out under the project include:
- Seven viaducts.
- Twelve overpasses, one underpass and one steel footbridge.
- The replacement of 3.8 km of the conventional railway line in Balsicas and 2.2 km in Torre Pacheco.
- 9.47 km of reinforced concrete retaining walls.
- 31 cross-drainage structures.
With the project now 92% complete, works are entering their final phase. Current efforts are focused on completing the two remaining sections of the high-speed rail formation corresponding to the railway bypasses already in service at Balsicas and Torre Pacheco stations.
A project that continues to bring High-Speed Rail closer to Cartagena, strengthening rail connectivity across the Region of Murcia.
