Construcciones Urales, the Mexican subsidiary of Grupo Azvi, together with Grupo Indi, continues to make solid progress on the Maya Train, one of Mexico’s most emblematic railway projects.
To date, 50% of the embankments have been completed, and work on earthworks and structures is ongoing. At the same time, superstructure activities have begun, such as railway ducting and track assembly and leveling. The first pieces of heavy track machinery, sent from Azvi’s workshops in Seville—where they were specially prepared for this project—are already on-site.
This May, rail welding work is scheduled to begin, along with continued sleeper production at the Poxilá plant in the southeast of the country, and ballast supply from Veracruz, which is being shipped by sea to the project’s storage yards in Chocholá and Tixpehúal.
Work has also advanced on 70% of the vehicle crossings, where the structures are complete and access ramp construction has already started.
For drainage works, wildlife crossings, and general crossings, prefabricated concrete elements are being used to accelerate on-site work and ensure project deadlines are met.
Section 3 of the Maya Train, spanning 172 kilometers between Calkiní and Izamal, continues to strengthen its role as a key component in the development of southeastern Mexico’s railway infrastructure.
