The expansion of the new Conventional and High-Speed Rail concourse at Chamartín Station enters service

Today, the new main concourse at Madrid’s Chamartín-Clara Campoamor Station enters service, completing one of the largest railway transformations undertaken in Spain in recent years.

At Azvi, as part of the joint venture with COMSA, Vías y Construcciones and SANJOSE Constructora, we are proud to have participated in this landmark project to prepare this strategic hub for the growing demand in rail traffic and improve the experience for millions of passengers.

Among the main works carried out are:

  • Expansion of the main concourse, increasing its floor area from 4,000 m² to 18,000 m².
  • Doubling of high-speed rail capacity, increasing from 6 to 12 tracks with connections in both directions.
  • Construction of new high-speed rail tracks and platforms, as well as a new underpass to optimise passenger circulation.
  • Comprehensive refurbishment of the commuter rail tracks and platforms to improve the station’s operational performance and capacity.
  • Enhancement of accessibility, intermodality and energy efficiency throughout the station.
  • Execution of the works while maintaining the station operational throughout all phases of construction.

An infrastructure equipped to meet the current and future demands of sustainable mobility, reinforcing Chamartín’s role as one of the Spain’s main railway hubs.
